Cherry Blossom & Torii Gate — Japanese Sumi-e Ink Triptych

by LSE_Prints
One ancient trunk. One torii
gate dissolving in spring mist.
One breath of Japanese sakura
season rendered in authentic
sumi-e ink wash.
A gnarled ancient cherry tree
trunk rises from the lower left
in the boldest darkest ink —
twisted bark, forking branches,
the weight of centuries in
every brushstroke. From there
the blooming sakura branches
sweep across the full composition
in a natural graceful arc,
flower clusters dense at the
center and thinning toward
the right where the branches
release their petals to the air.
In the middle distance a
traditional Japanese torii
gate dissolves in soft spring
mist — barely more substantial
than the atmosphere surrounding
it, a sacred threshold between
the flowering world above
and the still water below.
Dark grass blades and water
plants at the bank. Pine
silhouettes barely visible
in the deepest background.
On the right side individual
petals drift freely in the
open space. The painting
ends where the last petal
settles.
Monochromatic black ink and
graduated gray wash on aged
cream washi paper texture.
A small red artist seal
in the lower right corner —
the only color in the
entire composition.
No borders. No text. No
panel lines. One seamless
sumi-e painting from
edge to edge.
