Somewhere Past the Pink Sky Letterpress Thank You Card

Darla stepped outside of her usual style with this watercolor piece, experimenting with brighter colors, layered silhouettes, and depth through the different sizes of the birds crossing the sky. The vivid pink sunset became the heart of the painting, especially against the deep blue water below.

One of the most interesting details actually started as a mistake. A drop of water accidentally landed on the artwork while she was painting, creating unexpected texture across the sky and water. Instead of starting over, Darla decided to lean into it, adding more water droplets to create a soft, misty effect throughout the piece.

She also experimented with shadows beneath the boat and keeping the silhouette simple while still creating movement and distance. The result feels bold, dreamy, and full of motion, like a quiet moment at sea just before nightfall.
